Commercial Manager - Alva Industries

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Alva Industries for a Commercial Manager, reporting to our CCO. Working with stakeholders across the business, you will be responsible for delivering commercial advice and support, leading contract negotiations with our customers and partners, advising on key commercial and contractual issues and identifying and mitigating risks to ensure contractual delivery.

The role has been newly created as part of Alva’s recent expansion activities and will be a key role in developing our growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and supporting business development strategies to identify opportunities and initiatives.
  • Assisting the sales team in developing and implementing contracting strategies for new business
  • Evaluating contractual and business opportunities and conducting bid / contract evaluations with input from stakeholders across the business.
  • Build and manage effective relationships with key business stakeholders including finance, sales, engineering, development and operations teams to support in negotiating contracts and managing contractual risk.
  • Leading the negotiation of contracts for our customers and partners and developing negotiation strategies.
  • Drafting and advising on the interpretation of contractual terms and conditions
  • Developing and implementing tools to monitor, manage and mitigate risk and communicating risks to senior management teams.
  • Raising commercial awareness in the sales team and across the business by developing and providing training and support.
  • Advise of the lifecycle risk of contracts and projects, suggesting appropriate risk management and mitigation actions.
  • Developing policies, precedents and procedures relating to commercial contract management.
  • Working with project management and other teams to ensure project delivery.

Requirements
Experience:

  • Educated to minimum master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline/experience (legal and/or economics).
  • 5 -10 years’ experience in a commercial or contracting role.
  • Qualified lawyer or relevant legal experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with a demonstrated knowledge of contract law and principles
  • Experience in a commercially focused role with some business development and strategy experience

Preferred experience:

  • Experience in a B2B contraction environment
  • Commercial experience in an engineering industry

Skills:

  • Analytical and decision making: Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to use judgement and experience to identify risks and opportunities
  • Customer focus: Understands the requirements of customers can assist the sales team in developing and building good customer relationships.
  • Business acumen: An understanding of Alva’s product and markets in which we operate, an understanding the competitor landscape and market factors effecting the product.
  • Negotiation: A skilled negotiator with effective experience in managing internal stakeholders.
  • Management: Effective commercial and contract management skills
  • Leadership: Good leadership and motivational skills
  • Communication: Good communicator able to work and collaborate with different teams and level of the business
  • Initiative: Able to act on own initiative, make things happen and accept responsibility for the results
  • Network: Able to establish and build a useful network of contacts and relationships and utilize it to achieve set goals
